Before you begin
Windows 10's standard support ended on 14 October 2025. A computer can continue to run it, but ordinary operation does not mean it is receiving the same security support as a supported Windows release. Microsoft offers Extended Security Updates for eligible devices; check the current programme terms, region and end date directly with Microsoft.
Before changing the operating system, list the apps, games and peripherals you rely on. An upgrade decision includes software and driver compatibility as well as the processor. Back up files and make sure you can sign in to the account that holds any encryption recovery key.
Work through the checks
-
Identify your current system
Open Settings → System → About and record the Windows edition, version, processor and installed RAM. Run
msinfo32from Windows Search to see further system information. Motherboard identification can be incomplete on some builds, so compare it with your order or ask support. Do not assume every system sold with an i5, i7 or Ryzen name has the same upgrade eligibility. -
Use Microsoft’s compatibility check
Run the official PC Health Check tool and read the specific reason for any failure. Windows 11 eligibility includes a supported CPU, TPM 2.0, UEFI/Secure Boot capability, memory and storage requirements. Passing one item does not establish full compatibility. A label such as H310 or a processor generation on its own is not a complete compatibility assessment.
-
Distinguish disabled features from missing hardware
A compatible machine may have an available TPM feature disabled in firmware. The option can be called Intel PTT or AMD fTPM, depending on the platform. Use the exact motherboard manual and ask support before changing it. Do not clear the TPM, reset all firmware settings or change storage mode simply to make a compatibility warning disappear.
-
Prepare for the change
Verify your backup, record the installed edition and check the manufacturers' support pages for essential devices. Allow enough free space and time for the upgrade and subsequent updates. Keep the PC on reliable power. If it already crashes, overheats or has storage warnings, repair that condition first; an operating-system upgrade is a poor diagnostic test for an unstable machine.
-
Follow a supported upgrade route
Use Windows Update when the eligible upgrade is offered, or follow Microsoft’s current installation-assistant guidance. Read any compatibility hold instead of forcing past it. Do not use a registry bypass or modified installer to make an unsupported processor appear eligible. Such a bypass does not change hardware support or establish that updates and drivers will work reliably.
-
Check the result before removing backups
After upgrading, test the features you actually use: internet, sound, monitor refresh rate, game launchers, controllers and sleep/wake. Review updates and activation. Keep the backup and any previous installation until you are confident in the result. If a specific device fails, identify its driver before changing unrelated settings. Record the new Windows build when contacting support.
What the results tell you
Only TPM or Secure Boot is flagged
The feature may be unavailable or simply configured differently. Check the full machine and firmware documentation before making changes.
The processor is unsupported
Enabling TPM does not make an unsupported CPU eligible. Consider Microsoft’s current supported alternatives and compatible hardware.
A work or school policy blocks the upgrade
Ask that organisation’s administrator. Do not bypass management or security settings on a managed PC.
Common questions
Does Windows 11 Pro improve gaming FPS?
The edition name is not a performance upgrade. Choose Pro for features you actually need, such as supported business-management capabilities, rather than an expected FPS boost.
Can I keep Windows 10 temporarily?
Check eligibility and enrolment for Microsoft’s current ESU programme. It is a limited security-update arrangement, not the return of standard feature support.
Will enabling TPM erase files?
Enabling an available feature is not the same action as clearing it. Firmware changes can still trigger recovery requirements, so obtain your backup and encryption key first.
When to contact ElitePCS
Send your order number, processor model and the exact PC Health Check result. We can help identify the motherboard and a supported upgrade path without relying on guesses about the build.
Contact ElitePCS support. Include your order number, the exact symptom and the checks you have completed. Keep passwords, licence keys and recovery keys out of screenshots.
